Year 4 - Session 6 - Week 4
I want to start with the lessons learned this week. There are some really eye-opening realizations that the heroes have made. Culture building is our #1 priority right now! Trinity was our Spelling Bee Champ in our first ever Spelling Bee Competition! Sawyer came in second place. They earned lifesavers!
Major Lessons Learned
Trinity - You cannot control people and if you take a few letters out of “similar” it says “liar”
Declan - Can add gifs and sounds to Google Slides and learning the definition for determined
Halle - Sometimes you work hard for things and sometimes you earn it and sometimes you didn’t. But, at least you worked hard
Bray - Push through things even though it’s hard to do so.
Paul - Do not wake up too early a lot of times, because your body needs a lot of sleep.
Avery - Go to sleep late, wake up early and you have a good day! Keep working hard and you can get 5% in Khan in one night.
Sawyer - Push through hard things
Raleigh - Read and persevere
Finlee - You can’t control people but you can control yourself and whatever leads you to the path of success will have you coming back for more
Raleigh - Paul is very smart. He is 7 and is in 3rd grade math.
Vesper - My friend has color-changing lights throughout her house
Lydia - If you work really hard to do something, 9/10 it will happen.
Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler has been our Storytime book on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The heroes love listening to the mystery unfold!
Quest was all about water - A flood Experiment started with the heroes making a house out of paper and placed it in a metal pan. They then created a barrier around the house to protect the house from flooding. After pouring water in the pan, they recorded how high the water was able to rise without flooding their house. In the Desalination experiment partners placed a layer of saltwater at the bottom of pan and then added a bowl to the pan. After they covered the tray with saran wrap and placed a rock on the wrap directly over the bowl. Finally they left it out in the sun to see how the desalination process works. After a day, they were invited to taste the water in the bowl to see if they successfully completed the experiment. Salt should have disappeared. They then tried their hand at urban farming through the City Farm game. Most of them really enjoyed the game all the way to earning the gold medal.
The pitch a pet practice was the goal of our time in Communication this week. Heroes read aloud their pitch to their squad and received a critique. Their second task was to record themselves reading their pitch a few times. They then watched the video to revise their pitch.
For Game Time Friday this week, heroes had to complete both Communication Challenges, Quest Challenge #1, not excused more than 2xs and gain 5% in Khan! They even were awarded a special donut for working so hard. Next week, the goals will be focused on Culture building and following our contract promises and rules of engagement.
