Year 4 - Session 6 - Week 2
We started the week off with a launch about George Washington and his commitment to being On Time. A game was introduced to the heroes along with a new tool (digital timers) that allowed them to earn free time in the afternoon instead of Studio Servicio. Mrs. EB would complete all Studio Servicio jobs for those heroes that made it on time to 10 out of 11 transitions. Well, they saw this opportunity and ran with it. Each and every hero completed the game leaving Mrs. EB to complete the roles of the Restorian, Magician and Sanitarian in each of the Houses. Two heroes, Paul and John Francis, must have not believed that Mrs. EB couldn’t complete the jobs to excellence in the allotted time and generously offered to support her in the cleaning.
The week continued with additional experiments of self-accountability. Some worked and some were a bust. But, as we find our flow, heroes are stepping up into various roles of sheepdogs - documenting the schedule each day for studiomates, introducing badges to new heroes, exploring new badge book ideas with peers, and decreasing conflict resolutions through immediate responses and active listening.
Quest brought a whole lot of dirt this week with heroes experimenting with how cover crops support our ecosystems and building layers of the soil in a jar. They ended by planting a seed in the jar and designing their own garden. Sawyer even shared his knowledge gained by listing the layers of the soil in order on Friday morning!
The pitch a pet challenges are continuing and they are counting down the days until families get to vote on the best pitch. This week they put on their creative hats and wrote a story about their pet going on an adventure. Homework Bound, the children’s movie from the 90’s inspired them with clips of the outdoors, bears and emotional owners. Their second challenge was to generate a poll in their studio to formulate the ethos part of their pitch.
Town Hall was a quick one with the squads determining guardrails for the various rooms during work periods. They shared their ideas open and honestly with valuable feedback.
EVERYONE turned in their Journey Meetings, completed Quest Challenge #1, and had their Prewriting #3 and #4 approved resulting in GAME TIME FRIDAY!
We planned our field trip for this Agriculture session that will be a school-wide trip to the Tietje Crawfish farm, co-op and Gator Chateau. The heroes are most excited about riding a school bus!
